ClampOn BIRD PIG Detector

Clamp-on wireless pig detector with acoustic and optional magnetic detection, local light and mesh-network signaling.
  • Supplied across Indonesia
  • Technical support & sizing
  • Delivery to site, onshore & offshore

A pig signaler at a remote valve station is only useful if someone can see it. The ClampOn BIRD PIG Detector is a wireless pig detector that sends every pig passage to your control room, with no cable to pull.

PT Saka Nusa Persada supplies the ClampOn BIRD PIG Detector across Indonesia as a ClampOn distributor. ClampOn built it for onshore, downstream and unconventional pipelines, especially where cabling is expensive or impossible. You can also read more at ClampOn.

How the Wireless Pig Detector Works

The BIRD senses a passing pig with passive acoustic (ultrasonic) technology. Its internal DSP analyzes changes in signal level at multiple frequencies as the pig goes by. For extra certainty, an optional magnetic flux gate adds dual detection. Consequently, it reliably detects any type of pig, from foam pigs to steel mandrel pigs.

First, a light on the instrument shows the passage locally. At the same time, the BIRD sends a “pig passed” signal or a raw signal over the wireless network to your control system, where ClampOn software or your MCS can display the signal graphically.

Why Go Wireless?

  • No cabling: there are no cables, junction boxes or wiring diagrams to engineer.
  • Non-intrusive: the sensor clamps to the outside of the pipe, so nothing touches the flow.
  • Long-life PowerModule: more than a year of operation on one module, according to ClampOn.
  • Fast rollout: because the mesh forms itself, a full network is up in a few hours.
  • Fits many sizes: in addition, it installs easily on pipes of various dimensions.
