How CP Works
Cathodic protection turns the protected metal into the cathode of an electrochemical cell, so the corrosion reaction shifts away from your asset. In practice, we use two proven systems.
Impressed Current (ICCP)
An external power source drives current through MMO, graphite or cast iron anodes. Therefore, ICCP suits long pipelines, tank farms, jetties and offshore platforms.
Sacrificial Anodes (SACP)
Zinc, magnesium or aluminium anodes corrode in place of your structure. Because SACP needs no power supply, it suits buried pipelines, buried tanks and medium-sized structures.
Our Cathodic Protection Installation Scope
- Survey and design: soil resistivity survey, current requirement calculation, anode layout and anode life estimation.
- Material supply: MMO/Ti, graphite and cast iron anodes, Zn, Mg and Al anodes, transformer-rectifiers, junction boxes and test posts.
- Installation: anode beds, cable routing and exothermic welding, test stations and rectifier setup, so the system is ready to energise.
- Testing and commissioning: structure-to-soil potentials, depolarisation and interference testing, and current distribution analysis.
- Documentation: as-built drawings, test results and maintenance recommendations for your integrity records.
Standards and Protection Criteria
We design and install every system in line with NACE/AMPP practice, ISO 15589, API 651 and ASTM G1 and G97. In addition, we tune each system to keep protection potentials within the −850 mV to −1,200 mV range. You can read more about corrosion control practice at AMPP.
